The world’s first h,m uman trials of covid-19 has commenced, BBC reports
The report says that healthy young volunteers between the ages of 18 and 30 and numbering 90 will be used for the trials, the study which has recieved ethics approval already will take place in the UK
The voluteer will be infected with the virus to test vaccines and treatments. Human trials have played major roles in vaccine production and in different treatments. UK is among the few countries that earlier, ordered millions of doses of the covid-19 vaccines
Human trial is vital because it will help scientists to know the smallest amount of the virus needed to cause infection, and the subsequent ways the human body reacts to the infection.
“This will give doctors a better understanding of Covid-19, the disease caused by the virus, which will feed into the development of vaccines and treatments.
Initially, the study will use the virus that has been circulating in the UK since the pandemic began in March, which is of low risk to healthy adults, to deliberately infect volunteers.
In time, a small numbers of volunteers are likely to be given an approved vaccine and then exposed to the virus, helping scientists to find out the most effective ones.
Volunteers are being asked to come forward and take part in the study. They will be compensated for their time, the government says”
